Michelle Obama was born in 1964 in Chicago, Illinois. She had a keen love for education and was enrolled in advanced placement classes and made honor roll all four years of high school. She ended up following her older brother’s path by going to Princeton University, where she focused her Sociology degree towards looking at the lives of African Americans living in the United States.

After experience racism and sexism herself, Michelle wanted to prove her worth and her potential in the community. She graduated from Princeton Cum Laude and joined the Third World Center, which was a student group that helped support minority students. Her graduating thesis was a 99-page paper entitled “Princeton Educated Blacks and the Black Community”  

Michelle Obama is the 3rd first lady to have a Post-Doctorate degree (after Laura Bush and Hillary Clinton). After finishing her Law Degree, Michelle went on to work at a law firm, Sidley & Austin, where she met her now-husband, Barack Obama.
